HS Code and Accurate Product Description

Product details needed for tariff classification and the risks of vague descriptions.

An HS Code is determined from material, construction, function, processing state, and intended use. Similar commercial names do not necessarily share a classification, and a supplier-proposed code may be reviewed again in the importing country.

Use a specific English description on the Commercial Invoice and Packing List. Catalogues, specifications, composition sheets, and product photographs can support classification questions.

What to prepare

  • Generic and commercial product name
  • Principal material, composition, and construction
  • Main function and end use
  • Finished good, component, or raw-material status
  • Model, specification, and product photograph
  • Comparison of export-country code and Philippine AHTN classification
